mercury
Mercury was the Roman version of the Greek God Hermes. Hermes was the messenger for the other Gods. Mercury is shown in sandals and that is to show who the God was. He also protected the travelers and merchants. It is the closest planet to the sun. On earth, we can sometimes see it. It is often called the morning star. Mercury is the second densest planet on the solar system. It looks wrinkled, like it has crust. This is because it has a molten core. It is also covered in craters. Unfortunately, humans cannot live on Mercury because it has no atmosphere and it his extremely hot. The extreme temperatures it can reach are -300 degrees Fahrenheit up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. The time on Mercury is about 58 – ½ Earth days long. The days are extremely long but it completes an orbit around the sun in only 88 Earth days. It is said that the name is appropriate because like Mercury himself, it is quick and efficient.
